so you want to get involved?
There's so much that we do, sometimes it's hard to keep up. We are the only theatre group at Boston University devoted solely to the work of Shakespeare and his contemporaries; we produce one or more productions per semester, hold scene festivals and other special projects, and host a monthly Shakespeare book club. Keep reading to learn how YOU can get involved!
STAY IN TOUCH!
The best way to stay involved with BUSS is to stay in touch and make sure you receive all important updates and event information. There are a few ways to do that:
MAINSTAGES & SPECIAL PROJECTS
Every semester, we put on one MAINSTAGE (full-budget) production in the BU Student Theater. Some semesters we may also put on a second, lower-budget production called a SPECIAL PROJECT. There are many ways to be involved in a production depending on your interests!
SCENE FESTIVALS
In addition to our productions, BUSS is a proud participant in two annual scene festivals! These are much smaller time commitments than our mainstages and special projects and are great ways to stay involved in the club if you are not a part of our larger productions.
COMBAT
COMBAT is an annual play-in-a-day festival hosted by BU's four student theatre groups at the end of September. Sign-ups are open throughout the month of September; you may sign up to write, act, tech, direct, SM, or TD for any of the four groups (please keep in mind that each group has its own sign-up form, so you should make sure to sign up for the group that you are most interested in representing during COMBAT). Writing begins at 8pm, rehearsing begins at 8am the following morning, and then the show is at 8pm in the Student Theater.
BARDFEST
Bardfest is BUSS's annual Shakespearean scene festival, held in BU Central at the end of April. Directors will pitch scenes (these can be from Shakespeare shows, Shakespeare-based adaptations, or from your own mind palace, as long as it's Shakespearean in some way), and then auditions and tech sign-ups will open. There are two performances each year.
BARDREAD
Bardread is BUSS's Shakespeare book club. We meet once a month, led by our Dramaturg, and discuss a play of choice together, followed by a whimsical Kahoot game. If you don't read the play, you can still come to BardRead—all are welcome!
