“The Scottish Play” meets sprawling Western epic in this reimagination of Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Macbeth. Out west on the American Frontier, sharp-shooting cowboy Macbeth and his wife, the ambitious saloon keeper, wrangle with prophecy, power and the haunting aftermath of their murder plot on outlaw boss Duncan. Scottish castles, Weïrd Sisters and medieval war transform into saloons, fortune tellers and quick-draw showdowns in BU Shakespeare Society’s western-inspired cursed tragedy.
Doctor John Faustus is at the height of his academic power; he is universally revered for his unmatched intellect, yet he still hungers for greater power. In Christopher Marlowe’s The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus, he trades his soul to gain mastery of dark magic and the service of the devil Mephistopheles. Faustus travels the globe, using the magic of his infernal aid to conquer his every desire and engage in many hijinks. Despite his might, he is still tormented by the fate of his soul. Can Faustus be saved, or will his pride and greed damn him for eternity?
